I can't imagine the process of getting our website designed and online having been any easier. I think these guys have got the process perfected.
Mark Sandham, Sandwalker & Associates 2011
Sandwalker & Associates Consulting were the first to road test our "content first" approach in early 2011.
The first thing we did was send them a login to our "Mockups" tool so that they could load in their real content and we could get an idea of what they were after.
We took screenshots of their very first mockup (click to enlarge):
The most important thing, we told them, was to forget about how it all looked and just quickly give us an idea of what they wanted out of their site.
Following their initial attempt, we logged in and refactored their site, using their real content, and make some suggestions of our own:
After a couple of minor adjustments, we got approval to proceed with the job.
Up until this point, Sandwalker had not paid us anything and were under no obligation to proceed with the job!
Once they had approved the online mockup, we invoiced them for 50% of the total cost and proceeded to the visual design mockup phase. We asked Sandwalker to supply us with examples of 3 sites they liked, and then produced a couple of flat jpg mockups in under a day:
Sandwalker were happy with that so we proceeded to deploy a static, clickable HTML mockup using their real content and the look and feel we'd agreed upon.
This was the "final product", and it's this clickable, HTML mockup that we got "signoff" on - rather than getting signoff on some imaginary design and abstract functional specification at the beginning of the project before anything had even been built.
From there, it was a simple task to deploy using Decal:
From start to finish, this project only took 18 hours to deliver from the time that Sandwalker & Associates completed their first site mockup!
